Transportation for CSNA 2007

If you fly into Willard Airport, the local airport, you can take the "27 Air Bus" to the Illini Union or the Hampton Inn. The Union stop is not a far walk to Busey-Evans. The Hampton Inn also has a free airport shuttle.

If you fly to Chicago (O'Hare or Midway) instead of Willard, you can take The LincolnLand Express or Suburban Express to Champaign. LincolnLand Express also serves the airports at Bloomington-Normal and Indianapolis. For either, you should make reservations.

If you rent a car and drive from Chicago, it should take you about 2.5 - 3 hours (150 miles); from Bloomington the drive is about 3 hours (170 miles), and from Indianapolis it is about 2 hours drive (107 miles). Amtrak also runs regular train service from Chicago to Champaign, but that is somewhat less accessible from the airports.

The University web site also provides detailed directions to campus.

Getting Around

Our meeting sessions, short course, and Thursday evening reception take place at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at 1205 W. Clark Street in Urbana. Our Saturday evening banquet will take place at the Illini Union at 1401 W. Green Street. The Friday evening meeting (for CSNA board members only) will take place at the Graduate School of LIS at 501 E. Daniel Street. We're arranging van service from the Busey-Evans dorms and the Union to and from NCSA. The van will leave the dorm and the Union at 8:00am and 8:15am, respectively.

The Hampton Inn is a short walk to NCSA, across University Ave. and down Goodwin Ave.

Reaching NCSA from the Illini Union on foot requires crossing two pleasant quads, but not everyone will want to walk that far. So we'll have a van pickup.

Walking from the Busey-Evans dorms takes you across several more of our most beautiful quads, but very few people will want to walk that far. Take the van.

CSNA board members only will need to get to GSLIS for our board meeting Friday at 6:00. Though there will be time to walk, we'll try to include a van dropoff that evening.
